Jamie Nieto medical fund
For anyone who does not know, Jamie is a two-time Olympian and four-time USA Champion in the high jump. He earned his place on the podium the right way, through hard work and dedication to his craft. He is now a private coach for an elite group of jumpers, in addition to an actor, writer, and producer. Those within the track world and beyond are fond of his regular interview series, Holla Athcha Boy, where he interviews world class and Olympic athletes. On Saturday, April 23rd, Jamie Nieto was involved in a tragic accident while at practice, during which he suffered spinal cord injuries. All the details are still coming together regarding his condition and prognosis, however one thing is clear: he needs our help. Launched in 2008, the Peace and Sport Awards have become one of the highlights of the Peace and Sport International Forum. They put the spotlight on initiatives and individuals who have particularly contributed to peace and social stability in the world in 2016. The Awards reward the expertise of various stakeholders working for sustainable peace through sport, through initiatives promoting the best practices in the field. This year, the Peace and Sport Awards Ceremony will be held in Monaco on Thursday 24 November, during the Gala Evening of the Peace and Sport International Forum. Sports Tourism and Planning online program from National Association of Sports Commissions, Ohio University
The NASC and Ohio University are pleased to offer the online CSEE course, Strategic Planning for Successful Sport Tourism, once again this summer. The fee is $400, and registration is open now and will close on June 30.
As a reminder; this course is Core Course 1 as outlined in the CSEE Program Redesign and is the first of three mandatory courses required for certification for those who enroll in CSEE from this point forward. If you are not already enrolled, you will be prompted to complete your enrollment during the online registration process. Enrollment is free and open to NASC members only; the registration fee for each course is $400.

July 18 – Registered participants receive Ohio University student ID and Blackboard login instructions

The Olympic Games and the Media – Coursera Platform
The Centre d’Estudis Olímpics at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona has just launched the second edition of the Massive Open Online Course The Olympic Games and the Media on the Coursera Platform.
The Olympic Games and the Media analyses the intersection between the Olympic Games, traditional and new social media and how television contributes to fund, shape and disseminate the major sporting spectacle in the world: the Olympic Games.
The great novelty of this second edition is that it will be offered with Spanish subtitles. All the teaching materials will be provided both in English and Spanish for free.

Olympians wanted to help manage IOC Space at Rio 2016!
A unique opportunity has arisen for Olympians to join the IOC team to help manage the IOC Space at the Olympic Games which begin in Rio de Janeiro in just under four months.
The IOC Space, located inside the Olympic Village, provides the IOC with an opportunity to engage with athletes around the programmes and initiatives developed specifically to support athletes on and off the field of play. Also the location for the election for the IOC Athletes’ Commission, the 300sqm IOC Space is situated at the entrance to the main dining hall, and contains several big screens, a photo-booth and other interactive elements for athletes to enjoy.

World Rugby seeks applications for research funding
As part of its commitment to delivering evidence-based enhancements to player welfare and medical practices, World Rugby is calling for submissions for potential funded research projects for 2017.
Interested parties should submit an initial concept document that will be assessed against World Rugby’s current research priorities by the members of the World Rugby Scientific Committee. This initial concept stage will be followed by a more in-depth, project plan assessment and, if applicable, an ethics approval process.
Invitation to submit a full project plan does not guarantee a successful funding application. World Rugby reserves the right to fund a study in its entirety or only part thereof. The closing date for submission of initial concept documents is 31 May. For more information, click here.

The United States Olympic Committee today announced the extension of its partnership with DeVry Education Group, a global provider of educational services. DeVry Group will continue as an official education provider of Team USA through 2020. Specifically, DeVry University and its Keller Graduate School of Management will provide undergraduate and graduate educational opportunities, a dedicated support staff and scholarship awards totaling $13.5 million between 2011 and 2020 to Team USA student athletes.

GoFundMe Announces $10,000 Global Competition For Olympic Athletes
GoFundMe, the world’s largest online fundraising platform, today announced a competition that would give Olympic athletes the chance to win $10,000 as they prepare for the Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro. The Olympian who raises the most money in a GoFundMe campaign between June 27th and July 15th will win the $10,000 prize. Over the past several months, nearly 100 athletes have raised over $400,000 on GoFundMe as they work to qualify and compete in Brazil. This competition will highlight these fundraising efforts and provide an incentive to donors and the athletes alike. “As a former athlete, I’m glad that GoFundMe can join in the spirit of competition and sportsmanship,” said GoFundMe CEO Rob Solomon. “I want to encourage all members of the GoFundMe giving community to support these athletes as they compete for greatness on the worldwide stage.”

Executive Committee approves bidding process for FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023
FIBA EuroBasket 2015 was the first edition of Europe’s premier basketball competition to be organised by multiple hosts. The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 could follow suite and take place in more than one country. FIBA’s Executive Committee convened a meeting on Tuesday 7 June, during which it approved the bidding process for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023. That edition of FIBA’s flagship event has the potential to be the first organised by and staged in more than one territory after FIBA’s Central Board came out in favour of receiving bids from multiple host countries. Moving forward with the process, FIBA will send requests for expression of interest to all of its national member federations this month. Those wishing to be taken into consideration must confirm their interest by 31 August. Following the Applicant Phase and the Candidate Phase, FIBA’s Central Board will ultimately announce the host(s) of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 at its end-of-year meeting in 2017.

FIFA invites companies to tender to be the Public Food & Beverage Concessionaire in Russia
FIFA has invited prospective tenderers to submit proposals for the FIFA Public Food & Beverage Concession operations at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ and FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017.
The FIFA Public Food & Beverage Concessionaire Programme is the programme which FIFA will oversee to cater food and beverage for general stadium ticket holders at both tournaments. The main objective of the tender is to provide quality products across all venues, with strong encouragement to also highlight regional culinary specialities.
Across both events, an estimated 3.7 million tickets will be available to the general public for matches at the 12 FIFA World Cup and four FIFA Confederations Cup stadiums, and the Public Food & Beverage Concessionaire Programme will play a major role in their matchday experience. The programme will also provide temporary jobs for thousands of local Russian workers in the eleven Host Cities.
At the 2014 FIFA World Cup™, over 12,000 temporary jobs were created for Brazilian citizens at public concession stands with over 3.1 million food and beverage transactions taking place at the stadiums over the course of the competition. For more information, please click here.
Board confirms process to award Rugby League World Cup 2021 hosting rights
The RLIF Board met on 12 January and finalised the documentation proposed by the RLIF Chief Executive, David Collier, for potential Hosts for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup. David Collier commented: “The bid documentation provides the criteria and the requirements upon which submissions will be considered for the 2021 World Cup. The deadline for submissions will be the end of June 2016 and we expect to announce the successful bidder in the fourth quarter of 2016.” “The Rugby League World Cup is the marquee event for our sport and requires world class facilities and infrastructure to provide the stage for the world’s best players to deliver the highest quality of rugby for all our supporters and for the nations participating.” The RLIF Board also confirmed financial support for the Asia Pacific and European Continental operations and grants for each of the 18 Full Members. RLIF Chairman Nigel Wood commented: “These grants are fundamental to the financial health of our members and the Board approved the early payment of the 2016 grants to assist our Members. The Board also noted the excellent progress made by the Continental Federations, the successful hosting of the World Cup Qualifiers in Florida and South Africa and the securing of additional funding by the European Federation from the European Commission to support coaching and governance.”
